Working With Vintage Family Photos

There are quite a few WIPS in this studio, but today I’m going to show you some of the photographs I’ve been working with.  They are all vintage  family photos and I’m combining them with some of my newest hand dyed collection of botanical printed fabrics.

I’m so glad to have this treasure.  Somehow my brother had confiscated them all but before he died he told me I could take them. I  was grateful that he let me have them. For one thing, I wanted to save them digitally and share therm with the rest of the family.  I did that; we now have a family website with many of the photos archived on the site for all to see or download.  As I find time, I add to them and will continue to until they’re all up there.

Meanwhile, I’ve begun a series of small quilts to document my family photos in textile art.  I’m thinking I may add some public domain photos with them that relate to the historical era to add to the timeline and for visual interest. I’ll be posting them as I finish them. This could be a project that could last for the rest of my life!  Well, I’m really thinking for a year or so, on and off.

  1. On Facebook you can create a group and you can make it private or public as you wish. I’ve created a number of private groups for family and for art exchanges there that have worked very well. Simply scroll down on the left of your home page and click on “create group” and take it from there.
